By weighing every existing approach against the others and looking at the problem afresh, I came to the question that twentieth-century philosophy of mind had set aside: where, in fact, is an experience? Not inside the body, nor in the spirit, nor anywhere within ourselves. The answer lies before us. We are the world.
A technical training taught me that a theory is worth only what it can build. The MOI was born exactly there — from the failure to design a machine that could see.
